The University of Oklahoma recently held their first ever combine at their Everest Indoor facility. Participants were tested for speed, vertical, agility and some rugby related movements. The format was modeled after pro and collegiate tryouts and was held in the very spot where many pro days have been conducted in recent years. “We were pleased with the set up and appreciative of the strength and conditioning staff from the football team for helping us make this a quality event,” Kenneth Forehand-Coach OU Rugby. Forehand saying a professional athletic setup is a key factor in attracting top talent. The Everest Indoor Facility boasts a full size football field with a ceiling high enough to allow kicking. The rugby team has access to testing equipment and was given support from the paid strength and conditioning staff. “We learned a lot on this one about timing to get top athletes and also how we can run it more efficiently in the future. We were able to get some athletes who we can use immediately and others who will pay dividends down the road,” said Forehand. “As this grows we expect to get we expect even bigger payouts.” Director of Rugby Jon Velie was pleased with the results but see bigger things in the future as well.
