Oklahoma Hosts Combine
Colleges - College DI-A

The University of Oklahoma recently held their first ever combine at their Everest Indoor facility. Participants were tested for speed, vertical, agility and some rugby related movements.  The format was modeled after pro and collegiate tryouts and was held in the very spot where many pro days have been conducted in recent years.

“We were pleased with the set up and appreciative of the strength and conditioning staff from the football team for helping us make this a quality event,” Kenneth Forehand-Coach OU Rugby.

Forehand saying a professional athletic setup is a key factor in attracting top talent. The Everest Indoor Facility boasts a full size football field with a ceiling high enough to allow kicking.  The rugby team has access to testing equipment and was given support from the paid strength and conditioning staff.

While happy with the results, OU is looking to improve the event for the future.

“We learned a lot on this one about timing to get top athletes and also how we can run it more efficiently in the future.  We were able to get some athletes who we can use immediately and others who will pay dividends down the road,” said Forehand. “As this grows we expect to get  we expect even bigger payouts.”

Director of Rugby Jon Velie was pleased with the results but see bigger things in the future as well.

“As far as we know, no one is running things to at this level.  We have the best indoor facility in the country and are getting buy in from the major sports and their staff.  With this kind of support, we see a bright future for this kind of event at the University of Oklahoma.”
