Arizona Hosts SDSU for Ranked Meeting
Colleges - College DI-A

After taking a month off for the holidays, 24th-ranked Arizona will be back at work Saturday when it hosts No. 14 San Diego State in Tucson, Ariz. The Wildcats will be looking to get back on track after losing the opening game of the season 31-21 to Arizona State.

Over the past few meetings, Arizona and San Diego State have had some memorable games. Two years ago, the Wildcats rallied from a twenty-point second half deficit to eventually squeak out a 26-24 victory over the Aztecs. Last year, Arizona edged out a narrow victory over SDSU, 26-21, in San Diego.

The Aztecs will play their first home game of the season on Thursday night as BYU rolls into San Diego. No. 4 BYU will be a quality opponent for San Diego State,

Arizona head coach Dave Sitton, beginning his 35th year coaching the team, has played in or coached in every game of the all-time series between SDSU and Arizona, which dates back to 1975. The Wildcats hold a 27-26-1 edge in the series. It is the second longest series in Arizona rugby history, behind Arizona State.

10 of Arizona’s 15 starters Saturday will be returning players from last season, including All-American No. 8 Nick Svob. The Wildcats will start Mark Watson at flanker. The Sydney University transfer is the fourth Australian to play for the Wildcats in the last five years.
