Battle for the Mid-South: The Rematch
Colleges - College DI-A

Life and Arkansas State meet for the second 80 minutes of a two-game contest that’s aggregate score will decide the Mid-South Saturday in Jonesboro, Ark. Life won the first match between the budding rivals 30-14 on March 17 in Marietta, Ga.

Life (5-0) holds a massive advantage in point differential, so the Red Wolves (4-1) have two ways they can leapfrog the Running Eagles: Win by 17 or more and at least match a potential Life bonus point, or win by 16 and bonus point while holding Life without a bonus point.

“Obviously, first we try to win the game, no matter what,“ said Mizell, who says the team hasn’t discussed how much they need to win by to finish first, “but I guarantee you the individual players know the number that it needs to be, and we’re just going to keep a zero on our side of the scoreboard so they don’t score on us, and that’s the only way we can do that.”

Arkansas State started off its all-time series against Life’s undergrad side, which is now in just its second full season, with a 28-26 win last April. Since then, though, the Red Wolves have dropped multiple 7s matches and the latest 15s game to Life. ASU is hungry to end the losing streak.

“You play a team like Life, and it always comes down to the bounce of the ball. Anytime we play them, we hope to win, but we know it’s going to be a tight game, and we have to do everything we can at that time to win the game,” said Mizell.

“And it sucks to lose over and over, but that almost gives you more power every time you play them, so I’d like to say that we have the most power that we’ve ever had playing them right now.”
