2-0 Black Knights Host 1-0 Kutztown
Colleges - College DI-A

Army welcomes Kutztown to West Point Saturday for a pairing of undefeated teams. Kutztown is 1-0 after squeaking by Ohio State last weekend, and the Black Knights are 2-0 with wins over Delaware and Rutgers.

Golden Bears coach Gregg Jones said last week his team did not perform well in Columbus, Ohio. Army coach Rich Pohlidal drew the same conclusion, and isn’t putting much weight on how Kutztown looked on film against the Buckeyes.

“I think (Kutstown’s) plenty good. I think they had a long bus ride and got off the bus and did the best they could given that situation, and I think Ohio State had a really strong match as well,” said Pohlidal.

“There’s not a lot to be taken from that. They have a very strong forward pack, they look like they have some pace out wide, and they have a good ball handler at 10. They look like they could be dangerous.”

Kutztown’s key playmaker, Tim Acker, is out with a torn ACL, and most likely will be the entire spring season. But KU still has the backline punch provided by a pair of South Africans, Gareth Lourens and Niku Kruger. Kruger is the ball handler at No. 10 Pohlidal referred to.

Army is still led by Will Holder at No. 10, which should make the midfield battle one to watch Saturday.

“If we perform all of our roles correctly, I think our defense will hold against whatever they put at us,” Pohlidal said.

Kickoff is 12pm ET at Anderson Rugby Complex.
