A popular Columbia University rugby player was critically injured early yesterday after he was in a hit-and-run accident in New York City. Peyton Bell, an economics and philosophy major and rugby player at Columbia, suffered head and body injuries when he was struck around 1:20 a.m. while walking across Broadway at 106th Street, reported the New York Post. Bell, 20, was reportedly getting out of a cab and was hit by a gray Mercedes-Benz that didn’t stop. He was listed in critical condition at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center. “I’m shocked and concerned for my son,” said his father, Scott Bell, from his home in Mercer Island, Wash. Bell earned All-Ivy honorable mention this year for Columbia’s rugby club. “He’s a good kid and one of my best players,” Columbia coach Hayden James told the Post. “He’s an unbelievable kid.”
