The American Rugby Management Group is launching a college recruitment and combine program and has started reaching out to college coaches to start a program matching enthusiastic high school rugby players with colleges with good rugby programs.
The Coaches Recruitment and Combine Program (CRCP) is set up to allow all colleges in the United States to participate, free, at any and all CRCPs held nationwide. At these CRCPs, a dedicated area is available for every participating college to have a coach /or school representative present their schools to interested athletes and parents. Coaches can deliver workout schedules, level of play information, medical, financial, and admissions support information.
Coaches pay a subscription fee to get access to high school player profile information, and match up with a player with the right academic profile.
The player profiles will include academic information as well as physical vital statistics and combine scores.
Program director Ray Peterson called the CRCP a “dynamic new program. We know that college teams have a hard time connecting with high school players who might be perfect for their school and their program. And the players have a hard time knowing much about rugby programs past the ones you always read about.”
The CRCP will hold a series of combines around the country where coaches can meet with players, and also where high school players can take tests and register scores on speed, strength, and agility.
“This program, we feel, is equally valuable for both players and college kids,” said Peterson. “It’s the first real nationwide recruitment tool.”
The CRCP is expected to increase dramatically over the next few years.
