Coast Guard Academy Takes on Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in a Pre-Season Showdown this Saturday at Kings Point, NY, kick off expected at 2PM.

The two United States Service Academies have had a bitter rivalry in all sports, and, as they are smaller and perhaps less celebrated than Army, Navy and Air Force, they have nurtured their rivalry in rugby as well.

Kings Point is coming  of a rebuilding year which saw them end their fall regular season play in the MetNY DI winless at 0-7. The Merchant Marines went on to win the Plate at the Beast of the East Rugby Tournament in Rhode Island during the spring.

Former national DII champions, Coast Guard finished last fall season at 4-3 in New England Rugby Union play.

So both are looking to get the season started right. Kings Point joins the newly-formed Division 1 Empire Rugby Conference (ERC) this fall and Coast Guard look to return to the DII elite.
