USA Sevens is providing a unique opportunity for high school rugby players to meet with college coaches during the Collegiate Rugby Championships 7s tournament June 4-5 in Philadelphia.
During the tournament weekend, players will be able to participate in combine-like workouts in front of college rugby coaches. Then at PPL Park during the CRC event, coaches will be available in a special section to meet with players to talk about their college rugby programs, and any assistance teams can offer.
Coaches will be available for about an hour, which allows coaches from different teams in the region and around the country to be available to players.
"Lots of college teams have small scholarships, or can provide some assistance in admissions," said USA Sevens Head of Strategic Development Ray Peterson. "This is a great chance for players to learn what is out there."
Peterson said the response from coaches has been outstanding, with all 16 CRC and West Virginia, UCONN, Buffalo, Delaware, Brown, Yale and numerous others among the colleges that have signed up so far.
"We expect 300-400 players to participate.
