| Second-seeded Gonzaga Clinical Against McQuaid |
| School Age - Boys |
|
Gonzaga beat opponents McQuaid, 26-0, in the last quarterfinal of the Boy's High School National Championship. Despite sitting out eight starters and subbing out the rest before full time, the match went exactly as Gonzaga wanted it to, shutting out McQuaid to earn a spot in the semis. "We played pretty boring rugby, but that's how things work," Gonzaga coach Peter Bagetta said. "You win and you advance, it doesn't matter how pretty you play." The victory shows the depth that Gonzaga has and playing against McQuaid will have provided the younger players with valuable experience. That experience will be key if Gonzaga is to make it further than they did last year. The team made it all the way to the final only to fall short against Xavier. But before they can look to the final, Gonzaga must first come up against Sacramento Jesuit who are looking for revenge for last year when Gonzaga ended their title hopes in the semifinals. Bagetta knows what his team have to face in their next game. "We're against Sacramento Jesuit next and they're probably the best team in the tournament," he said. |
