Ravenwood Sweeps TN Championships
School Age - Boys

Ravenwood’s boys and girls teams swept the Tennessee State Championships on the weekend, with the boys beating South Doyle 34-5 and the girls downing Maryville 12-7 in their championship games. This marks the first time any program has captured both the boys and girls titles.

Ravenwood’s Stephen Geltch won the MVP of the men’s tournament, having dotted down a try in the final. The Raptors led just 13-5 at halftime, but exploded for a 21-0 second half.

Powerful running and tackling earned Ravenwood’s Kenya Freeman the girl’s MVP. The 2013 championship is the third in four years for the Lady Raptors. Maryville captain McKenzie Hawkins opened scoring in the final with a converted try. Ravenwood’s Katie Swann closed the gap to two with a try near the 30-minute mark, but the Lady Raptors didn’t take the lead until the game’s final moments when Dani Dieringer scored the game-winner.

Maryville’s boys won the boy’s bowl championship with a 15-10 defeat of Siegel, and McMinn beat Germantown 17-15 for the boy’s plate. The McMinn girls won the bowl final 29-5 over Blackman.
