An injury-depleted Colorado Springs U19 team took on their brother club Chaparral RC Saturday hoping to eke out a win in preparation for their big match against #1-ranked Highland this coming week.
Though Chaparral played with passion and commitment the Grizzlies size, fitness, and precision implementation of game plan proved too much for the visitors. The hosts dominated set phase at lineout and scrums. In open play constant line breaks made by forwards and backs enabled enterprising team support play and backline moves that set up traditional full threequarter tries. Final score 105-0.
USA All American HS trialists Jess Roberson and Michael Black continued their fine form with outstanding games as the Springs completed their Colorado first division league schedule at the top of the table. They now enter the playoffs with a points ratio better than 10:1 (395 scored while only allowing their opposition 39).
Up for the Grizzlies before the onset of league playoffs next week is the Inaugural Tab Hicks Memorial Cup “Tackling Cancer” match versus Highland of Utah on Thursday April 21 at the Grizzlies’ home ground of Mountain Ridge Middle School. Kickoff at 5pm.
Next for Chaparral is the first round of Colorado’s prep league playoffs at the end of the month at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Athletic Complex.
