Big HS Games This Weekend
School Age - Boys

Spring Break is over and it’s time to get down to the serious business of playing some High School Rugby.

This year has seen an interesting shift, in that some high-profile games between single-school and HS club teams have gone the way of the single-school programs (not all, see SFGG against Jesuit and Colorado Springs over East).

It’s no coincidence that the new rule limiting HS club teams to high school players only (and no graduated kids still under 19) is in effect.

This week see several very big games around the country. Here’s a list of some key matchups and why they are important:

Pride Rugby v. Gonzaga. Two of the top teams in the DC-area. Pride is undefeated in league and Gonzaga could well be the best HS team in the country.

TRYBE v. Snow Canyon. With the parity winds blowing fierce in Utah, Snow Canyon sits undefeated in league play, having already beaten United. TRYBE has already lost, to Herriman, but could rebound with a defeat of Snow Canyon.

Red Mountain (Mesa) v. Tempe. This is the Arizona championship match.

Jesuit v. Dixon. Both teams are unbeaten in Northern California’s single-school competition. Dixon has one of their best teams in a few years and will be going to the national tournament. Jesuit’s administration is keeping them home for a year. So this game has a lot of extra meaning around it.

Columbia Valley v. Carlisle Thunder. Two of the three undefeated teams in the Eastern Penn Susquehanna conference.

Trojan v. Alpharetta Phoenix. Trojan needs to establish dominance in Georgia.
