Clever Helps Team to HK 10s Plate Win
International - Americans Overseas

USA captain Todd Clever helped the BGC APB All Stars win the Plate at the Hong Kong 10s this weekend.

Clever led all scorers with six tries in the first day of competition.

Todd Clever in action for APB"It's a real privilege playing with these guys, with all the Samoans, Tongans, Fijians and Kiwis," Clever told the South China Morning Post, "and I'm proud to pull on the jersey."

APB beat Rwanda 55-0 and Lloyd McDermott All Warriors 26-12 in pool play. They struggled a little against the Borrelli Walsh Australian Country team.

"They were great," said Clever. "They got us out of our game plan, took it to us, were physical."

Down a man due to a red card (to former IRB 7s Player of the Year Orene Ai'i), APB buckled down to put the game away, with Clever scoring one of the team's two tries.

With Ai'i suspended for the quarterfinals, APB struggled a little against the HSBC Penguins, losing 7-5. That put them in the Plate Round, where they thrashed Tag Heuer Eyewear Pyrenees 59-5, and then defeated Hill & Associates Scottish barbarians 41-0.

The Penguins went on to win the tournament, beating ULR Samurai in the final 21-14. So APB might lay claim to being the best team of the tournament at full strength.
