Overseas Update: H-Cup American-less
International - Americans Overseas

Chris Wyles and Saracens were eliminated from the Heineken Cup quarterfinals Easter Sunday, falling 22-3 to Clermont Auvergne.

The French Top 14 side dominated the run of play with their forwards. Clermont bullied Saracens in the scrum, forcing multiple penalties for collapsing. The Sarries saw little ball, thus Wyles, who started at left wing, saw little ball.

Reserve flyhalf Brock James came on for Clermont in just the third minute to have a man-of-the-match performance. James slotted three penalties in the first half to Saracens' one for a 9-3 halftime lead.

James banged through a dropgoal in the second half, coupled with a try from Lee Byrne minutes later, to seal the win.

Saracens had a couple of probes deep into Clermont's half in the third quarter of the game, both started by Wyles line breaks, but Clermont's defense held strong.

The Sarries spent the last several minutes of the match banging on Clermont's door, but the French club played superbly and held the defending Premierships champs out of the try zone.

With Saracens' exit, there are no more Americans left playing for the Heineken Cup.

In the lower European championship, the Amlin Challenge Cup, Takudzwa Ngwenya's Biarritz and Scott Lavalla's Stade Francais have advanced to the semifinals.

Biarritz did so with a 26-23 win over Paul Emerick's London Wasps Saturday. Emerick missed the game due to injury. Ngwenya started, but did not score.

Lavalla did not suit up for Stade Francais.

Biarritz draws the winner of Brive vs. Scarlets in one semifinal, and Stade plays Toulon in the other. Both are April 27.
