U20 Nations Cup Update
National Teams - Age-Grade Women

Santa Barbara, CA - The USA Women's U20s lost to England 37-0 today during the second round of the Nations Cup. England scrumhalf Fiona Davidson scored four tries on the junior Eagles and helped secure the Roses' berth to the championship game. England's opponent won't be named until Wednesday's games, when the USA and Canada face off.

The Eagles were able to keep England off the board in the first quarter, but a series of penalties started to stress the USA's defense. About 15 minutes in, England stole a USA scrum, then quick-tapped through a subsequent penalty to send Davidson down the weak side for the try.

Five minutes later, the USA found itself defending its five meter, repelling a hefty forward attack. Davidson swung the ball out to the backs and saw its wing get around the corner for the 10-0 lead. Ten minutes later, the USA stole one of several scrums, but the ball popped out the side. England recovered and fell over the try line, 15-0. The Americans returned the favor just before half, scooping up another ball that skirted out of the scrum, but England turned it over in the ruck. The ball worked out to the backs, where captain Harriet Mills inserted from NO. 8 and scored, 22-0.

It was much of the same story in the second half, and England was able to run in another three tries for the 37-0 victory.

Canada beat South Africa 27-7 in other match today, thereby tying the USA with a 1-1 record and two points apiece. The North Americans will decide who moves onto the final against England on Wednesday. England is expected to beat South Africa in the third round, and with the win will have beaten every U20 team in the world (there are six) in 2011.

Stay tuned for a detailed match report and feedback.
