Fong to Advise HSAAS on Academics
National Teams - Age-Grade Men

Karen Fong, Rugby Magazine’s College Prep columnist and professional college admissions consultant, will volunteer as the academic advisor for the USA Rugby High School All American program. At the upcoming HSAA camp in Arizona at the end of December, she will provide a group presentation to all players and parents in attendance, as well as being available for individual consultations during the camp.

Karen Fong is also a referee.“Our HSAA priority is to identify and nurture future Eagles however international rugby becomes a reality for a select few and a professional rugby career is often short-lived," said HSAA Head Coach Salty Thompson. "Whether our players reach the pinnacle of rugby or not they will need a career outside the game.

"Having academic advisement in the HSAA Winter Camp is an important element in developing the whole person. Many kids are unprepared for life after high school and rugby players are no different. With so many underclassmen in the HSAA system its important to help students and their parents prep for post high school, looking at class loads, credits earned, GPAs, ACTs and SATs. As an educator and coach I believe this is really important for the kids and their parents with no cost to our budget.”

Fong is also in discussions with Head Coach Danielle Miller of the Girls HSAA program to provide similar services in the near future.
