The USA High School All Americans defeated the Chile U19 team 24-17 Sunday afternoon in Vina del Mar, Chile.
Chile took an early 5-0 lead, but the American high-schoolers replied with a converted try to lead 7-5. Chile regained the lead with a penalty, and the game continued along that vein all day.
The tourists took the lead 14-8 with another converted try. But Chile replied with two Francisco Urroz penalties to tie the game at 14-14.
Then, 17 minutes into the second half, the High School All Americans scored a nicely-taken try in the backs to lead 21-14. A penalty goal made it 24-14 - more than a single score ahead. And the Americans needed it, as Chile were able to score a penalty to climb within seven.
But that was it. The High School All Americans, in Chile for only a few days, win the first match in a torrid five-match tour through Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina.
